Seaside Vista, Bay St. Cruz Bay.
We are arriving Sunday Feb 26th, departing Saturday March 11th.
~Check out our travel page. I have listed several different accommodations, with varying costs. ~We recommend staying within walking distance to Cruz bay town center… “where all the restaurants are”
Yes! The most affordable way to rent a car is at the airport in St Thomas. These can be booked on Travelocity. St John options: ~Sunshines Jeep Rental ~Aqua Blue Car Rental The most common rental is a Jeep or like vehicle, you can save a sig amount of money with a sedan. A jeep is not necessary, but it can make beach parking much easier, and let’s face it, take the top off!! 😎🌴
Yes! However they charge per person, not per car full…can get pricey! If you are only staying a few days, opting for taxi transportation may be a good option instead of a rental car. Taxis are all open air, and pretty fun!! 😎
The island is very casual! Ladies: Sun dresses, bathing suits and cover-ups, flip flops, maybe a few maxi dresses and you’re good! Leave the heels at home! 😂 I’m always cold, so I’ve used my Jean jacket a few times at night. Bring sneakers for hikes if that’s your thing! There are many relatively easy hikes that are beautiful! Guys: leave the coat and tie at home! Pack lots of shorts, a few button down shirts and polos for evening, t-shirts and bathing suits for day time. Definitely flip flops. Bring sneakers in case you want to venture out on one of the many beautiful hikes.
If you’re flying from Boston there are often many direct flights to St Thomas, then you either pick up a rental car at the airport (recommended), or take a taxi to the ferry which is approx 35min to Cruz Bay, St John. There are 2 Ferry’s Car ferry, which is referred to as the barge, leaving hourly from 6am-> Midnight. No reservations needed. Approx $30/car load, or $8/person walking on. This Ferry leaves from Red Hook. People only ferry which has a limited 3x/day schedule. Current pricing was not listed. This ferry leaves from Charlotte Amalie
We like “Sun Bum” reef safe sunscreen. For the catamaran you are not allowed to use aerosol sprays, lotion type only. We typically bring one lotion type, and 3 aerosol for the week. There are many opportunities to by sunscreen on island, but it will always cost you much more! We have also found that SPF 30 works well!!
Snorkel gear will be provided on the day of the wedding. There is opportunities to rent gear on island for for however long you like. We usually bring our own because there are lots of great snorkeling spots right off the beach!
It is recommended that you have a passport, but is not required for St John. For the wedding we plan to sail to the British Virgin Islands for the day. This requires a passport!! This is not yet set in stone due to Covid. Check the wedding home page for the latest updates on this!!
Groceries on the island can be expensive at times, depending on the item. Because St John is a US territory, feel free to pack a carry-on, or check a box of food if you are staying in a hotel or villa with a kitchen. Our villa has a grill, we plan to take frozen meats for grilling. The flight is short so anything frozen will keep until you arrive at your rental. There are also grocery delivery services that are very affordable. They will completely stock your fridge prior to your arrival with virtually anything, including alcohol!! The preferred company is called Landlubbers!! Check them out on Face Book.
