Devon and Natalie’s story began in Grade 9, in English class. It wasn’t love at first sight—more like laughter at first joke. Devon had a way of making everyone around him laugh, and Natalie quickly became drawn to his sense of humor. Things took a turn when she was moved to sit next to him in class after... getting in trouble for laughing. From that point, they spent their time talking, joking, and forming an unbreakable bond. Over the next ten years, Devon and Natalie were always there for each other. He’d walk her to and from school every day, and they’d spend hours chatting at the end of her parents’ driveway. Through the ups and downs of life, they remained a constant in each other’s world. It was easy—just two best friends, side by side. While they shared a deep friendship, neither was ready to take things further. They both felt that “something more,” but they didn’t want to risk what they already had. That all changed in February 2022 when Natalie invited Devon to a Habs game in Montreal. Her parents came along, and it was during that trip that she realized something: Devon wasn’t just her best friend. He was someone who truly fit into her life in every way. The way he connected with her family, asked questions, and showed kindness was all it took for her to know he was the one. After the game, things shifted. It felt natural to see what would happen next. A few days later, Natalie received a message from her dad: “It’s time to give Devon a chance.” It made them both laugh, but also felt like the sign they needed. Fast forward a year and a half, and Devon had a surprise planned. He told Natalie to go out with her girlfriends while he “helped” her parents set up lights on their new gazebo. When Natalie came home, he asked her to check out the lights, but instead, she walked into a beautiful setup—flowers, candles, and music—and there was Devon, asking her to marry him.
