We recommend that attendees fly into either Rome (Rome Ciampino "Giovan Battista Pastine" Airport), Ancona (Ancona-Falconara "Raffaello Sanzio" Airport), or Abruzzo (Abruzzo Airport). Travel time to Fermo is listed in the travel section. The easiest mode of transportation to Fermo is to rent a car. There are several affordable options for car rentals at either airport. In order to legally drive in Italy, you are required to obtain your International Driver Permit: https://www.dmv.org/international-driver-permits.php However, for travel from major cities, there are many affordable train and bus services. There are several affordable airlines that you can use to fly throughout Europe. It may be cheapest to fly into a major airport, such as London airport, and then hop on a local flight. It is possible to find affordable airline tickets closer to the event via a website called Scotts Cheap Flights: https://scottscheapflights.com/ However, these flights are usually pretty spur of the moment, and may not be practical for planning purposes. Although airline tickets are so variable these days, we have read that the optimal time to purchase international tickets is around 5-6 months out. Currently, there are no COVID requirements to fly to and from Italy as an American Citizen. Of course, this could change. For updated information, we recommend that you check prior to your departure: https://it.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/ Please remember to renew your passport if you have not already. Wait times can be several months, so we would encourage you to work on this sooner rather than later. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html/
