FAQs

Question

Will the ceremony be religious?

Answer

Yes. The ceremony will be a traditional Jewish wedding ceremony, which will include prayers, blessings, and traditions that may be unfamiliar—however, no participation or prior knowledge is required.

Question

Do I need to do or say anything during the ceremony?

Answer

No. Guests are simply invited to observe and celebrate with us. All readings, prayers and traditions will be guided by Rabbi Jack or others called to the chuppah. Feel free to join in with the "Amens", "L'Chaims", and "Mazal Tovs"!!

Question

Will the ceremony be in English?

Answer

Parts of the ceremony will be in Hebrew, with explanations in English so everyone can follow along. Translation books called "siddurs" will be available to guests.

Question

What is a chuppah? Why will we have a veil on the chuppah?

Answer

The chuppah is the canopy under which the ceremony takes place. It symbolizes the home we are building together. The veil is a family heirloom on Benny's side that all brides have incorporated into their wedding ceremony. It was worn by both Benny's mother and grandmother.

Question

What is the breaking of the glass?

Answer

At the end of the ceremony, Benny will break a glass. This is a traditional Jewish custom, and it is customary for guests to cheer and say “Mazel Tov!” afterward. Immediately following, guests will cheer the couple down the aisle into the main reception room.

Question

Do I need to wear anything specific for religious reasons?

Answer

No religious attire is required for guests. For the wedding, we will have kippahs (yarmulkes) available for men at the ceremony. For women, please feel comfortable wearing dresses with or without sleeves, we ask that you wear modest necklines.
