The closest airports to San Sebastian are Bilbao or San Sebastian. There are no direct flights from the U.S. to either of the these airports. If you want to fly to Bilbao you must fly through a major European city such as London, Dublin, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt, etc. To fly to the smaller San Sebastian airport, you must go through Madrid or Barcelona on Iberia or Vueling. There are many more flights into Bilbao, but it is farther from the city than the San Sebastian airport. Once you arrive to Bilbao, you can catch a direct bus to San Sebastian (duration- 70 minutes/frequency- every hour/Cost - approx 20 euros). Flying into the San Sebastian airport will leave you much closer to the city, but these flights tend to be more expensive than flights into Bilbao and are less frequent. If you fly to San Sebastian, you can catch a city bus for a few euros (pay on the bus) or a cab for about 50 euros.
You do not need to rent a car for the wedding weekend. Assuming you are staying in the city, all transportation to the events that need a vehicle is included; those that don't are all walking distance from the city center. If you choose to stay outside the city (please don't) then you will have to find a way to either the taxi pick-up points or to the events yourself. San Sebastian is a small-ish city and very walkable. There are also buses and a local metro to whisk you around town as needed.
Please see each event for suggested attire. San Sebastian is a maritime city and can have large temperature fluctuations as well as wet conditions. Along with your wedding attire, we suggest you bring light clothing for warm weather, a bathing suit for the beach (and spa) , good walking shoes for sun and rain, and a sweater for cool evenings/afternoons. Temps can range from 60-90 and when it's wet, it can be surprisingly chilly.
No, of course not. We wanted to make the weekend as fun as possible and introduce you to some of the great experiences in San Sebastian, but feel free to only attend what you like. We do ask that you check your RSVP carefully about a month before the wedding to be sure we have the right numbers. And of course, even if you can't attend the extras, we do hope you will attend the wedding!
No, you can get euros at any ATM machine. Make sure you go to a real bank though, and check that the exchange rate is comparable to the daily exchange. Some unscrupulous banks have stuck up ATMS advertising no withdrawal fees, but they will charge you exorbitant exchange rates. Speaking of exchange rates, if you pay for anything with a debit/credit card, make sure you pay in euros when the card reader asks you to choose. If you pay with dollars, the merchant's bank can charge you whatever exchange rate they want and you might wind up paying a lot more than you expected.
The wedding party will be picking up the Thursday food tour, transportation to and the Friday dinner, Saturday transportation and all wedding festivities, the Sunday brunch, Spa visit and goodbye treat at Bar Antonio.
Stay Tuned....TBD
