Wit and Nancy both accompanied friends to a "Singles Night" at a Giants baseball game at what was then "AT&T Park". While mingling with other singles under the "Coke" bottle beyond center field before the game, from across the crowd Nancy noticed Wit, who turned to see Nancy's bewitching green-eyes gazing at him above a bemused smile. Our eyes locked, and we walked towards each other with curiosity. Those who know Wit know that he is ALWAYS curious -- and Nancy tends to be less so. Opposites Attract! It was "some enchanted evening" when two strangers met "across a crowded room". We chatted, watched the game together, then exchanged phone numbers, and the curiosity grew for both of us. A few weeks later, Wit asked Nancy to go to a Tom Petty concert at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. Over a bottle of red wine and a pair of carnitas burritos from Gordo's on Solano Avenue, they began their Free Fallin' journey!
It was their last night of a vacation in Ka'anapali on the island of Maui. After stargazing in a meadow just off the beaches of the Nanea Resort, Wit got down an one knee and asked Nancy to marry him and spend the rest of their lives together. The proposal had been many years in the making. Wit, being the traditionalist, had asked Nancy's Dad, Bill, many years earlier for his permission to marry his daughter. As a couple, Nancy and Wit had been discussing marriage for those many years -- they just weren't in a hurry! "When you know -- you know."
