Padrinos and Madrinas

In Mexican culture it is customary for friends and family to financially "sponsor" certain aspects of the wedding ceremony and reception to help the newlywed couple in their relationship and their future starting with the wedding. These people are called Padrinos and Madrinas which translates to Godfather and Godmother. Certain Padrinos have special roles that hold a religious significance which are detailed below. Padrinos De Velacion

Padrinos de velacion translates to the Godparents of wakefulness. Per tradition, the significance of the padrinos de velacion is a couple that is selected by the newlyweds to pose as guardians of their marriage. They are a couple that the newlyweds admire and who give advice and spiritual guidance throughout their marriage. Basically Jessica is considered to be the Maid of Honor and Tanner is the Best Man.

Padrinos De Lazo

Padrinos de lazo translates to Godparents of lasso. Per tradition, the significance of the lazo is the visual representation of two individuals becoming one. The godparents that bring the lazo to the altar are a couple that is considered by the newlyweds to be the physical embodiment of the strength the lazo represents because they have been together for a long time and know how to navigate the waters of marriage.

Padrinos de arras translates to Godparents of earnest. Per tradition, the significance of the arras is the desire for prosperity and the promise that the newlywed couple will care for each other. There are 13 coins, one to represent each month of the year that the couple will care for each other and the 13th to be shared with others.

Padrinos de biblia y rosario translates to Godparents of bible and rosary. Per tradition, the bible signifies the word of god and the rosary signifies the devotion to prayer. As individuals the couple learned how to be devout in their faith now they must do it together as one.

Padrinos de Cojines translates to Godparents of cushions. Per tradition, the cojines are used throughout the couple's marriage as a comfortable place for them to kneel on and pray together.

Padrino de anillos translates to Godfather of rings which holds the same significance in any culture. Our rings will be taken to the altar by the most trusted ring bearer.
