Enjoy a dozen East coast oysters and a craft cocktail at one of our favorite Austin restaurants. If you're really hungry, their lobster roll is the best we've had outside of New England. Fair warning: you'll never look at gulf oysters the same way again!
If sushi is your thing, we can't recommend Komé - our very favorite restaurant - strongly enough. The fun-but-authentic decor and unbelievably fresh fish make it hard to believe you're in landlocked Central Texas. The Alone Together roll is a must, and nothing beats the nigiri.
Whip In is a St. Edward's staple and one of Nancy's favorite spots for a glass of wine. Don't underestimate the food either!
The ramen craze is in full effect in Austin, and while you'd be hard-pressed to stumble across Daruma by chance (it's tucked into a nondescript pocket of rowdy 6th Street), we still think it's the best bowl of hot soupy noodles in town. Order the tatsuta-age (fried chicken bites) and an Asahi draft for ultimate enjoyment!
If you want to cross Texas barbecue off your list, Salt Lick is an authentic and crowd-friendly option in nearby Driftwood. Here you'll get all-you-can-eat meat in a sprawling layout that's just far enough out of town to be considered Hill Country. As a bonus, it's in the vicinity of some fantastic Texas wineries - just remember you have a wedding to attend!
An easy hike to the top of Mt. Bonnell in West Austin provides a spectacular view of Lake Austin (otherwise known as the Colorado River) and the downtown skyline. The best part? It's totally free!
South Congress is one of Austin's most iconic streets. Lined by bars, restaurants, and quirky storefronts on either side, it's a great spot for visitors. The Congress Avenue Bridge separates South Congress from downtown, and is home to Austin's famous bats. Fun fact: Hotel San Jose on South Congress is where Jack proposed to Nancy - and its courtyard provides a mean spot for a cool drink.
Skip 6th Street in favor of Rainey Street, a unique bar scene where traditional Austin bungalows have been converted into casual, trendy bars, each with their own flavor. Clive Bar has been a staple in our friend group for years - try a Mezcal drink from the hidden bar out back.
