I had a weekend job teaching scuba diving at a dive shop in Portland. There were two classes taking place that day, mine and the owners. It was the last day of my class, and we were heading to the ocean to complete the course. On my way out the door I poked my head into the shop classroom to let the owner know I was leaving. That’s when I saw it, a hot chick who had signed up for a scuba class. After completing my class I selflessly volunteered my services to this new class which contained a total babe. Not much interaction came out of the first day I saw her, however I selflessly volunteered my services to help with the entire class over the next 4 weeks. The second week I had my opportunity. I was filling scuba tanks long after the class had ended when I noticed the hottie, whom I since learned went by the name of Nancy, was still in the parking lot. I went outside and asked if everything was ok. She informed me she was borrowing a friend’s car; the battery had died (which was located in the trunk) and the trunk could not be opened because it was locked and the keys to unlock the trunk were stuck in the cars ignition. Now had this been anyone else in the class I probably would have just wished them luck with their over-complicated predicament and went back inside. However, because it was the lovely lady who kept catching my eye, I decided to selflessly volunteer my services. The next week we did our first dive in the ocean, everyone else in the class was cold and couldn’t wait to get out of the water, not Nancy, she asked if we could keep diving. For the sake of education, she and I stayed in and kept diving. Fast forward a week to the end of the course, I knew something had to be done to keep this beauty who loved diving from swimming out of my life. We struck up a conversation and next thing I knew we were exchanging phone numbers. SCORE! We went on dives as we got to know one another, all down in York, Maine at Nubble Lighthouse. I strategically selected this dive site as it is both beautiful, and an hour-long drive which she would be forced to spend time with me. At Nubble over the weeks, we got to know one another, we made plans to dive more, hike together, had our first kiss, and where she agreed to marry me.
I signed up for a SCUBA class back in 2021 where Adam taught. It was a two hour drive from Searsport but I didn’t mind! I was going to learn how to dive! Adam began assisting my class after the first day. He soon became my instructor and we connected like puzzle pieces. I felt a magnificent pull to learn about him. He was a tall handsome man, my age. Was he single? What’s his story? What’s he like? I was extremely curious and he actually made me a little nervous, quickly realizing that it was because I had a crush! After one of my classes, the battery to the car I was borrowing, “Elenor”, was dead. The key was locked in the ignition and due to that I was unable to open the trunk to access the battery. I had to call AAA. He was curious about me as well, wondering why I was still in the parking lot as he peered through the window. He came outside striking up a conversation. I told him what was happening and he got on YouTube to try to help figure out how to fix it even knowing that AAA was on the way. He fixed it! He was my knight in shining… scuba gear. Once the class was over, he asked if I planned to continue diving in Maine and asked about my passion to pursue learning. He invited me to dive again with him. I pursued diving with Adam one on one after that. Adam made it possible to continue to dive in Maine and learn. Truly he showed he cared for me from day one, as I did for him. I began to see that he was like no one I had ever met before. The sarcastic humor, witty remarks, passion and deep brown beautiful eyes made me keep coming back for more. Even two hours apart, we made plans to dive together. I met him at the dive shop to purchase all of my gear and join him for a night dive. I hopped in his truck and we began driving to York together from Portland. He asked me about myself, and I about him. Once we started diving, I knew one day I wanted to call this man mine. It was an enthralling dive full of nervousness and excitement. After we finished our dive and removed our gear and wetsuits; I asked him if he wanted to get back into the water for a swim. In his mind, that was the green light. He and I jumped into the frigid Maine ocean with bliss. I was mesmerized by the bioluminescence in the water, him and the sparkling sky. Adam threw his arms around me and kissed me under the stars at Nubble Lighthouse during our first night dive together. We fell in love. The rest is history.
