Our Nikkah ceremony will begin at 11:45 AM in the main musallah (prayer) area of the mosque. Following the ceremony, all guests will be invited to the banquet hall downstairs where lunch will be served. Afterward, the couple will spend some time taking photos with guests, enjoying meet-and-greets, and taking part in a cake cutting while everyone mingles and celebrates together. To conclude the celebration, Hameed and Namra will share a brief toast followed by a symbolic dove release outside the mosque.
For our non-Muslim friends, a Nikkah is an Islamic marriage ceremony that formally unites a couple in marriage under Islamic principles. It is a simple yet meaningful ceremony that includes the consent of both the bride and groom, the presence of witnesses, and the signing of a marriage contract. The ceremony often includes a short sermon from the imam (religious leader), prayers, and blessings for the couple’s future together. While traditions and celebrations may vary across cultures, the Nikkah itself is centered on love, mutual respect, and commitment.
When visiting a mosque, modest and respectful attire is appreciated by both men and women. Clothing should cover the shoulders, arms, and legs—avoiding anything too tight or revealing. Women are often asked to cover their hair with a scarf, while men should avoid wearing shorts above the knee. It’s also customary to remove your shoes before entering the prayer area.
