Their Story

In 2013, Hendrix College hosted Arkansas Governor’s School, a residential summer program for upcoming high school seniors. It offered courses in math, science, music, and the arts. Although they were able to select which three subjects they could be placed in, both Nalee and Alex found themselves assigned to the math program. Ironically, they didn’t really speak to each other until the second to last week of the six-week program. In the student center where everyone gathered to hang out after classes, it was Alex who made the first move. Nalee had been sketching while her friends were playing a game of pool when he approached her and asked her about her drawing. After that day, they hung out here and there and slowly got to know each other. As the last week came to an end and they were getting ready to part ways for the night, Nalee asked Alex for his number. To this day, he says he had planned on asking her first. After the program, they didn’t think they’d meet each other again. However, they kept in touch and in November of their senior year, they became official. From there, they kept a long distance relationship for over seven years before Nalee introduced Alex to her parents. Soon after, Alex asked them for their permission to marry Nalee and paid her father the bride price of $10k. Her father accepted and on the day that Nalee graduated from university, Alex proposed to her. She said yes. They got legally married in 2021 but had to delay their wedding due to Covid. Now they are excited to finally celebrate their marriage with friends and family.
