How We Met

70's Themed Blind Date

On October 20, 2012, Sarah and Chris (who was strictly known as ‘Baxter’ in college) were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend for a 70's themed sorority date dance at SDSU. Although Sarah had bronchitis and Baxter wore a large afro wig, we hit it off and enjoyed dancing the night away... and eating inordinate amounts of sushi on Baxter's part. While the two instantly connected that night, it took them a while to wisen up and actually start dating. Throughout the roller coaster of college, Sarah and Baxter continued to be drawn toward one another and remained connected over the next 3 years. FINALLY, Baxter asked Sarah to be his girlfriend while on a trip to Las Vegas on April 18, 2015.

The Proposal

Bubble Pond, Acadia National Park

After 4 years of dating, their long distance relationship, and moving to new cities together, Chris decided it was time to make things official. When on a trip to New England to visit the Baxter family for Thanksgiving, the couple took a weekend trip to hike in Maine. After a quick 5 hour drive in the rain they arrived at the trail! All enjoyed a beautiful hike towards the Cadillac Mountain peak. The sun began to hang low in the sky and the temperature dropped to the 20's, but Chris insisted on moving onwards to the peak. Upon their ascent to the peak, their path was blocked by a large sheet of ice. To Sarah's relief, the group reluctantly opted to descend. At the base of the mountain sat a peaceful pond, framed by two mountains. While enjoying the view, Chris asked Sarah to play a game of "hangman", which the couple had been playing at various points throughout their travels. Sarah was very confused why they were playing a game in the freezing cold... but then learned that that the first word of each game spelled out "Will you marry me?". Chris got down on one knee to ask the question... but Sarah said "Yes!" about 10 times before he could even finish asking. The couple was engaged on 11/23/19!
