On a warm summer night destiny, fate, and the stars aligned. Nakia and Rohan were simultaneously encouraged by their separate individual friends to attend a local bar. Both accepted the invites and attended, intending to simply grab drinks and enjoy the music. However, neither was prepared for the journey they’d embark on. As Nakia waited to be served by the bartender, she accidentally bumped into someone and politely turned and apologized before continuing to order her drink. Moments later, the stranger tapped Nakia then gestured toward Rohan and stated my friend thinks you’re cute. Nakia looked at Rohan, smiled, and said “I think he’s cute too” … and she carried on to the dance floor. Throughout the night, Nakia spied Rohan standing off to the side, holding a drink and watching her dance. At some point, Nakia noticed he was gone, bummed but she continued partying. As she danced the night away, her gaze caught his eyes. Excited by his return and the tunes of a reggae song, Nakia took a chance and grabbed Rohan's hand to dance. As the song ended, Nakia thanked Rohan and walked away. After all, it was just a dance! The night came to an end and as the lights came on, Rohan tapped Nakia and asked for her number. At first, Nakia declined but with Rohan’s smile and genuine responses, she took another chance and agreed. From that night, the two talked day and night and came to realize the individual that brought them together was truly a stranger at the bar that simply sparked conversations. From the very beginning, Rohan nicknamed Nakia, “Sunshine” and spoiled her with Jamaican food and great companionship. Over the years, both have continued growing to be better partners and friends. Whether traveling or doing yard work, Nakia and Rohan can be seen working together and encouraging each other. It is no surprise that after many years of dating, partnering, and living together, Rohan proposed to Nakia on her birthday, August 20, 2022, in front of their friends and family. Nakia unequivocally said yes!
