The Proposal

11/06/2016

When someone fusses at you about you stopping at Starbucks on a Sunday afternoon- you should really know something is up. Like it's Me and Starbucks, I really should have caught on. Last November I was preparing to go to Guatemala to participate in a Women's Health Camp. On the Sunday I planned to hang with my girlfriend Candice, shop for my trip and embrace my sweat pants before leaving the country, I was hoodwinked. Candice cancels on me at the last minute- I made sure to tell her what she was worth. Ummi and Aba refuse to go get something to eat with me. Aba and Tamara tell me I look like a bum and make me change clothes. When I finally get to eat, Amir doesn't eat! And during the drive to take Amir to the park, he and Tamara jump out of my moving car screaming about a spider! Needless to say, I was fussing. As I'm fussing and driving through the park, we begin to approach the Grand Basin at the St. Louis Art Museum. I see gold balloons that read "Will You Marry Me?" I say to Tamara and Amir, aww someone is getting married. I look to my right and see the two of them smiling and Tamara with a camera in my face. Now in front of the Basin, a blurred image of familiar faces in the background, my mothers voice yelling "get out of the car!" And Tamara and Amir yelling to stop the car- I realized Josh set me up! Who does this? In front of all of these people? They catch the car, I get out. I couldn't tell you what Josh said. I can tell you he had tears in his eyes and he was shaking, that of our family and friends who have become family, were there holding balloons and smiles, that some random Asian lady had her camera in my face, that I said a prayer and then, I said yes. I don't think he knows what he said either... and yet, it was all perfect. Note: There was never a spider in the car- my parents were running late and they had to stall. Pretty creative guys. *Josh also blames Candice for everything not going as planned.

For all the days along the way
