A Love Story Written in the StarsA Love Story Written in the Stars

It all began in the summer of 2020............ In a world just waking up from Covid's lockdown, my beloved sister Nathalie decided it was a good idea to play matchmaker. Ironically, she had a crush on our church pianist, who just so happened to be best friends with this sarcastic, fiery, and undeniably charming guy I had only ever seen in pictures. He was Haitian, raised in the church, and had a sense of humor that could both make you laugh until your stomach hurt and make you roll your eyes in exasperation. I, too, was raised in a Haitian household, full of love, music, and faith. Charismatic, goofy, creative, and just the right amount of quirky, I was either his perfect match or his worst nightmare. Fast forward to a scorching summer day when fate (and our meddling yet wonderful group of friends and family, you know who you are) arranged for us all to meet at the lake for an adventurous day. From the moment we locked eyes, there was an instant connection. We flirted like two high school kids, exchanged playful banter, and engaged in a series of ridiculous competitions, including a race home that neither of us will admit to losing. A few weeks later, the universe (and our ever-so loving friend group) led us on a cabin trip, where we spent even more time together. We still insisted we were just friends, but anyone with eyes could see otherwise. On the way back, we weren’t ready to say goodbye, so we extended the adventure to Wildwood, where we played mini golf, rode go-karts, and devoured funnel cake, stretching our “friendship” into as many stolen moments as possible. When everyone else had enough of us and called it a night, we snuck away to the beach, where we danced the night away to the sound of crashing waves, laughed until our cheeks hurt, and watched the sun melt into the ocean. That night, without even realizing it, we had our very first date. From that day on, we were inseparable. Through the ups, the downs, and the beautifully chaotic in-between, our love grew stronger, proving that even in the moments that felt disastrous, we always found our way back to each other. And now, here we are ready to continue our happily ever after!
