Question

What is the history of Dr. Phillips House?

Answer

The Dr. Phillips House was built in 1893 by architect L.M. Boykin at the behest of Colonel Peleg Peckham. Colonel Peckham presented the house as a wedding present for his daughter. The house was purchased by Dr. Phillips in 1912, a prominent figure in the citrus agricultural industry in Central Florida, where he resided until his death in 1959. On July 10, 1979, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. The house is a well-preserved example of the city's Queen Ann Shingle Style architecture and the only such structure remaining in Orlando.
