As young kids, we met at a family friend's house in 2007. 9 years later, in 2016, we reconnected while we were both lifeguarding at the pool. We saw each other at a staff party after not seeing each other in what felt like forever! Mason asked me if I wanted to be on his team for beer pong (which we destroyed the other team of course), and from there on we were inseparable. We become adventure buddy's and always wanted to go outdoors to find a hike, go for a campfire, ski, you name it! Fast forward to February 7, 2017. We decided to go on a ski trip to Whistler. We were so excited as this was the first "bigger" ski trip we had done together. We had lots of fun on this 3-day trip, but of course, me being accident-prone as per usual, fell down one of the slopes and injured my knee. Unfortunately, I couldn't get back up and we had to call ski patrol to tow me down. I remember being so frustrated that our ski trip ended early and Mason was trying to crack some jokes to cheer me up. One of them being "stop being so grumpy, grumpy girlfriends are no fun". This completely flew over my head and I just sluffed it off as one of Mason's usual jokes. Just as the ski patrol got up to the spot so they could tow me down, Mason asked "Nadia will you be my girlfriend". And of course the answer was yes!!!
SO PROPOSAL! Mason and I were doing a road trip to BC from Hay River to visit family and friends. This was the first big road trip together (we both survived so that is a bonus). We made the best of the drive down, stopping in Whitecourt for our first night, and then driving to Banff the next day. We had a couples massage booked in Banff, but there is no such thing as a road trip without chaos. Because of the forest fires, we were late and ended up taking a bunch of sketchy back roads thanks to google maps, only to get there late still, and get a 15 min massage. Afterward, we had some bubbly, chocolate cake and then spent the evening at the Keg. The plan was to go to Moraine Lake after dinner, but me being stubborn, I said I would rather go shopping. Long story short, we ended up driving to Moraine Lake!! I don't think I have ever seen Mason so quiet on a drive before, and he was white-knuckle the entire way there. Once we got to the lake, Mason brings out this big hiking bag (keep in mind this is a 3 min trail to the lookout). I kept asking him why he had such a big bag and his response was "you are very accident prone and you never know who will need first aid". Once we got to the lookout, Mason asked a couple to take some pictures for us and didn't want Freya in the picture. Again, me being stubborn, I kept asking why he didn't want her in the picture. We ended up taking some nice photos, and then out of the corner of my eye, I see Mason down on one knee, and he asked me the big question "Nadia, I love you so much, will you marry me?". I remember being in complete shock and all I could do was nod and say yes. So I guess it is safe to say this is why Mason really wanted to go to Moraine Lake......
