Jacob and Nadia met the way many modern couples do—on Hinge, in the middle of a global pandemic. Their first date was on November 14, 2020, at the Anaheim Packing House. With indoor capacity restrictions in place, they waited in line outside, chatting through their masks and trying to catch glimpses of each other’s personalities through laughter and conversation. Once they made it inside and sat down to eat, they finally removed their masks—seeing each other’s full smiles for the first time. They ordered kabobs (which Nadia still jokes about, being Egyptian and convinced that Jacob was trying to score points with the cuisine choice). The conversation was easy, natural, and full of unexpected connection. Not ready for the night to end, they found a nearby bar for a drink and continued talking like old friends. Jacob gave Nadia a ride back to her car, and what should have been a quick goodbye turned into another hour of conversation in the parking lot—with the car running the whole time. Somewhere in the midst of all that talking, Jacob may have even stolen a kiss or two. And on the drive home, they weren’t ready to stop talking yet—so Jacob called her. From that night forward, Jacob planned thoughtful weekly (and sometimes twice-weekly) dates. He showed up fully, consistently, and with a quiet confidence that never wavered. Just one month in, Nadia knew—Jacob was the man she would marry. Nearly five years later, they’re still talking, still laughing, and so excited to begin their next chapter together—surrounded by the people they love most.
