A beautiful spring day in 2015, a chance meeting in the city of Orange, New Jersey was the beginning of their journey into a world of love and happiness. Mynerva, as if on clouds, floated into her school’s break room. Sitting at a table in the corner was a guy in a bow tie, he says, “Hi”. Caught off guard, Mynerva responds "Oh my, you scared me, “Hi!” The guy in the bow tie chuckled, apologized and said, “My name is Harrison, what’s for lunch? It smells good.” She responds with the brightest smile, “It’s legume. I'm Mynerva, nice to meet you." They begin to talk about why Harrison was even there that day, to discuss insurance with anyone who'd be interested. Although a couple of other people entered the room, it was like they were the only two there. After talking for a while about insurance and teaching, Harrison charmed Mynerva into buying an insurance policy by cunningly offering to read to her students. Once they set a tentative date for him to read to her class, they parted ways anticipating meeting again. That beautiful spring day was the extent of their time with one another until one chilly, late fall afternoon, you know, one of those days when the reddish orange and yellow autumn leaves seemed to fall from their trees in slow motion. Mynerva called to speak with Harrison about her insurance policy and the conversation ended with a date. On January 2, 2016, Harrison for the first time of many, drove down to Rahway to have a date with the goddess who would change his life forever. Cubanu, the restaurant they decided on, was perfectly lit and immediately set a romantic mood. Mynerva and Harrison were seated, then an evening of getting to intimately learn about one another began. A pitcher of sangria, appetizers, a meal and good conversation ensued; Mynerva’s eyes seemed to glow at times as the two spoke. If anyone was paying attention to the couple, they could probably see the little red hearts rising from Harrison’s head like a kid smitten by the new girl in class. After several more exciting and romantically fulfilling dates, there came family introductions as a couple, laughter, tears, some tough times, failures, successes, vacations, more good times, and ever more happier times. Mynerva and Harrison had fallen deeply in love with each other. Almost inseparable, they became a couple of love birds. After nearly a decade of learning one another’s stresses and fears, likes and desires, each other's ambitions and goals, of being in each other's corner through it all, on September 29th 2024, Harrison took Mynerva on a whirlwind birthday adventure ending in a drive up to the Eagle Rock reservation in West Orange where Harrison persuaded a very tired Mynerva to come out of the car to look at the glowing NY skyline with him. He walked her over to the pavilion where they stood and looked at the city for a moment, nervousness mounting, Harrison gathered up the courage and pulled the box he was hiding from Mynerva all day from his pocket. He looked her in her sparkling eyes, proceeded to get down on one knee, all the while Mynerva was starting to shake and asking, “What’s happening right now, and Harrison said "Mynerva ‘K’ Jean, I love you more than hearts, will you marry me?" After about what seemed like a lifetime but was actually about 10 seconds of Mynerva saying things like, “Huh?”, “What’s going on here?”, “Are you serious?”, she finally said, “YES!” Harrison stood up, they gave each other a hug and a kiss and then on cue, as if it were staged, several strangers that happened to be present started clapping and congratulating the newly engaged couple. And hand in hand, they walk towards their future together - IN PERFECT HARRMYNE!
