We met in 2020, during a year that brought a lot of unexpected things, one of them being each other. Emma had just moved to Victoria in September after a few years of adventuring and bouncing around the country. Ryan had recently finished biking across Canada and decided to move to Victoria too, arriving in October. After our first date, it didn’t take long for us to realize we had a lot in common, especially our shared love for the outdoors and adventure. We just kind of knew we wanted to be together. Ryan’s kindness, steady presence, and ability to always make Emma laugh made her feel right at home, and from there everything fell into place. That first summer together really set the tone for our relationship. We cycled the Icefields Parkway and then spent the fall working at Lake O’Hara Lodge, a backcountry lodge in the Rocky Mountains. Our days were filled with hiking, mountain views, and learning how much we loved doing life together. Since then, we’ve travelled to Iceland, climbed lots of mountains, and continued to chase adventures big and small. Ryan is endlessly supportive, and together we’ve built a relationship rooted in love, laughter, and having each other’s backs, no matter the terrain. In September 2024, after hiking to the top of The Chief in Squamish, we took in the views and caught our breath. Ryan then started pacing back and forth, and Emma was quietly thinking, “What’s going on with him?” A few moments later, it all made sense when Ryan popped the question at the top of the mountain, and Emma said a very big yes. We can’t wait to keep adventuring through life together, wherever the trail leads next.
