How It Started

Summer of 2016

Myles and I were friends for over four years from going to the same school and were never quite interested in each other in a romantic way, but were always in the same small circle of friends. The summer leading into my senior year of high school my parents and I moved back into my childhood home. I asked a few of my friends if they could help my family with moving some of the loads back and forth, and Myles was the only one who committed and showed up. He had only had his license for two weeks at this point but was more than willing to drive his manual truck and help my family in whatever way possible. Throughout the day I saw his interactions with my parents and siblings and knew at that moment I wanted to marry someone as kind and intentional as he was. I never saw a boy act the way he did without having any sort of agenda (or maybe he really did..). Every day after that we became closer and moved slowly towards where we are now!

How I Proposed

March 21, 2020

Mel and I went on a trip to Kauai with her parents, little sister, and her sister's boyfriend. I, along with one of our close friends Jondi (who is from Kauai) helped plan out this proposal. It was difficult to keep this a secret from her since it was our only planned vacation we had and we never hide anything from each other. On the day of the proposal, we had dinner in town at a burger place where it began to pour right as we finished out burgers. It was a complete downpour, which freaked me out because I was supposed to propose in just a matter of time! Thankfully it ceased before we got back to the beach where it all happened. There was a restaurant on the far right with a sidewalk that went all the way down to the opposite side of the beach where her sister had snuck over to in order to make sure everything was set up properly. As we walked to the end there were handpicked plumeria flower pedals in a path leading out to an outlined heart with more flowers and tea lights, and there I knelt down on my knee and asked my best friend to marry me.
