Hi family and friends. We are so excited for our next chapter in life and to see what God has in store for us. For many of you who don’t know how we met, you are in for a treat! In just a short summary, we hope that you’re able to capture a glimpse of how our love story began from each of our own perspective. We give all thanks to the Creator who continues to write our story and pour His grace on us. Love, Dou & Mykalia
Well, it was a Facebook ad that started everything. Her friend Kalia shared the post and I thought to myself “Alright, this girl is pretty cute.” So I decided to “respond” to the ad. I wrote to Kalia and said, (This is the actual conversation) Me: Hey! I see that you guys are advertising your friend. She’s very pretty. Do you think she would mind if a random guy, like myself, were to add her in fb? Kalia: Lol… you’re not completely random. I don't think she would mind, but I can’t say how successful it will be. She’s one of my best friends. Are you going to be at our basketball tournament this year? I can introduce you to her. That would probably work better. Me: Haha. I’m not a random person to you, but I am to her. But since she’s one of your best friend, I’ll take your word on it. Haha. I don't think I will be coming to the basketball tournament this year. But I will be at Kevin’s and Angela’s wedding! Maybe that will work too? Kalia: Lol personal introduction is always better. But yes we’ll both be there so that’ll work! Me: Haha. Alright then! I’ll see you guys soon.
This conversation took place on May 13, 2017. Who knew that this would be the start of something incredible. So then, on June 24, 2017, the day of Kevin’s and Angela’s wedding was finally here. I remember thinking to myself, “Today is the day I’m gonna meet Mykalia. I hope her friend don't back out!” I was helping Kevin and Angela with their “video booth” so I was pretty busy. But then I saw Kalia and went over to say hi. Mykalia wasn't around at the time so Kalia told me she would go find Mykalia. So I headed back to the video booth. Then a couple minutes later, Kalia and Mykalia showed up at the booth. My first initial thought was “Okay, this girl looks way better in person than in her photo.” Kalia introduced us, we shook hands (her handshake was weak, felt like a dead man’s hand), we locked eyes (I noticed she got lost in my eyes), and then I asked them to say a little something for the video booth. After that, I didn't think too much about it except for the fact that I was super excited I was able to meet her. We continued on with the wedding, I was helping with the video booth and Mykalia was off doing Lord knows what! Then after the wedding, since I wasn't able to eat, I asked Kalia and Mykalia to see if they would like to go eat pho. To my surprise, they said yes! So we all went to eat pho, well at least I ate pho, and we just talked and laughed and made fun of each other and all I could think about was, “This girl got jokes…this girl is funny…this girl is something else…” Then out of nowhere, Mykalia kicked us out of Appleton. The next day, I added Mykalia on Facebook. I knew she couldn't resist me because she accepted right away and messaged me. And that kids, is the story of How I Met Mykalia.
It was on a Thursday night, my friend Kalia and I were finishing up with our Sunday school meeting from church. We sat out in the parking lot of my car talking about life and catching up. Right before she was about to leave, she said, "Mykalia, you remember that Facebook ad Nouly posted about you... Well, I have a friend who saw it and wants to meet you. He's going to be at Kevin and Angela's wedding this weekend." I remember thinking to myself that he's probably another Facebook creeper. Fast forward to Saturday, I got to the wedding. A few of the girls and I were decorating cupcakes and helping set up. Kalia came up to me and said, "Do you want to meet him?" I had no interest but wanted to be respectful so I went with Kalia to meet Dou. I remember shaking his hand (almost lost an arm because of his handshake) and introduced myself. We talked very briefly since Dou was helping with the video booth and I was helping with the food set up. My first impression was, “Hmmm... he's not bad!” I was attracted to his confidence and possibly height. (Haha) After the reception, Dou asked my friends and I if we wanted to grab pho since he didn't get the chance to eat dinner. When we got to the restaurant, all I remember from our conversations was us cracking jokes and picking on each other. I remember thinking to myself, "This guy is something else!" It was getting late and because Dou and his friends had to travel back to Minnesota, I gently kicked them out of Appleton. The next day, Dou sent me a Facebook friend request... I messaged him first and wrote, "Had to think about accepting your friend request...." Fast forward 17 months later and here we are... in love and happily engaged! This wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for a little sister who decided to post about her sister and a friend who shared it .... ;) God is too funny! ❤️
