How We Got Engaged

05.08.2026

Matthew and I planned a trip to NYC with our dear friends, Rob & Em Scott. We got in a little bit earlier than them so we checked into our hotel and made a plan to check out Central Park. We got changed and started our trek through NYC to Central Park when it began to rain (not so great when wearing a white sweater when suspecting a proposal). We ended up waiting out the rain on a bench outside of the park while people watching. Once the rain let up, we continued our journey into the park to look for the Japanese Cherry Blossoms Central Park is so famous for. After hours of searching, 5 miles of walking, a nervous Matthew and a cranky Christine - we took a break on another bench and inquired someone local about the Cherry Blossoms. She graciously informed us (while bird watching) that they had closed up already and blooms ended 2 weeks ago. We chuckled as we had been searching for hours (little did I know, Matthew was trying to propose in them and this completely threw off his plan). Matthew quickly tried to figure out a plan B but Christine was TIRED. Matthew ventured further into the park, despite Christine's grumbles, and found a quiet path out of the crowds where he proposed! ... and of course, Christine said YES!

How We Met

10.01.2023

Matthew and I joke that with internet dating being as horrible as it is, that we made it on the last helicopter out of Nam - we swiped right on Hinge. I knew that between his devilish good looks and also being adopted, I had to take a chance! After talking every day for 4 weeks, I finally allowed Matthew to take me on a date. We went to Aab, one of our favorite Indian restaurants - if you know us, you know we're MAJOR foodies. After the initial nerves faded, we immediately felt comfortable like we had known each other for years. We ended the evening back at his apartment watching movies and at the end of the evening Matthew turned to me and said "Can you be my girlfriend now?" Even meeting on a dating app, We later learned how close our circles intertwined with my bridesmaid Elizabeth knowing Matthew prior to them dating and Matthew's neighbor/friend Jeff knowing me from High School! - Clearly, meant to be.
