Question

When should I book my flight?

Answer

As soon as you can! The best time to buy tickets, if traveling from the US, is 4-5 months ahead so February or March for our late July/early August wedding. Although we have no particular preference for airlines, as Rwandans, we always try to support Rwandair. Having said that, we care about your pockets and understand that it’s important to get the most cost-effective flight that you can. From our experience, Kenya Airways or Ethiopian Airlines may offer better packages. PLEASE DO NOT... forget your passports, traveling documents, yellow fever card and a big smile because we can’t wait to see you all!!!

Question

How long is the flight?

Answer

It depends where you fly from! If traveling from the US East Coast, the flight is usually about 20-24 hours. Expect a layover as there are no direct flights from the US to Kigali.

Question

Do I need shots to travel safely?

Answer

As always when traveling abroad, first consult with your doctor. You can also find great information on the CDC website. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/traveler/none/rwanda

Question

What languages are spoken in Rwanda?

Answer

Kinyarwanda is the national language of Rwanda, and the most widely spoken. English, French, and Swahili are also official languages.

Question

How do I get around in Rwanda?

Answer

Transportation is readily available for travel throughout Kigali, the capital city. You can download the Yego Moto app to hail private cars, cabs, or motos. You can also hail a cab or moto on the street. There is no Uber in Rwanda. To travel outside of Kigali (for example, when going on an excursion), we recommend hiring a tour guide and/or driver.

Question

How do I buy things and spend money?

Answer

The Rwandan franc (RwF) is the principal currency in Rwanda. Credit cards are not readily accepted by store owners, so we recommend that you carry cash for any local shopping and purchasing needs. You can exchange USD for RwF at the airport or at many local banks. ATMs are also available.
