Shannon and Emily met while in college at a conference for student leaders. They were instantly enemies. Emily spent too much time looking at Shannon on Instagram and Shannon spent too much time wondering what Emily was planning that made her so quiet in meetings and was determined to "take her down".

After becoming reluctant coworkers, Emily and Shannon discovered enough shared interests to become tentative friends. Arguments turned into banter and banter eventually turned into flirting, until the only people unaware that Shannon and Emily were dating were, in fact, Shannon and Emily. After driving a combined 14,148 miles (!!!) visiting one another, they eventually had to call themselves on their own bullshit and started dating in winter of 2017.

Emily proposed to Shannon with a letter on October 30th, 2020 outside of Goose the Market, a favorite sandwich shop in Indy. Shannon had just finished running hills and Emily told her "you don't need to shower" and then proceeded to make multiple traffic violations while driving to Goose, prompting Shannon to say "...are you good, man?" with a significant amount of judgement in her tone. (She was not, in fact, good.) Note: Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird ALSO got engaged on this day. Iconic.
