Best Man
Sterling’s first big-deal milestone, he's got hair with curly flair, and he got a nickname, Curly. The next milestone he walked right into, his cowboy boots. He went everywhere in those cowboy boots. Jump a decade, we're angsty teenagers, RIP our parents’ sanity, he's unloading the dishwasher, humming a tune and I go "Hey Elvis, shut it!" or something, it wasn't a memorable moment. What was memorable was the name, Elvis, through that angst-ridden ridicule came a name that brought us together. So, what's all this about? Elvis, my brother. He's rigid, comfortable and undeniably fashionable like those boots he loved so much, yet, easy going, self-reflecting and moving with the flow like the first nickname he adopted, Curly. He's also an all-star to me, an inspiration and a true Elvis.

According to Facebook, this happened on June 22nd, 2013. It was a regular Jasa family tradition to sneak across the country to surprise each other by appearing in the audience of a show they were doing. For my brother, it was during a performance of A Chorus Line. Helped by his now fiancé Sterling, I waited to greet him with roses after the show. I’ll never forget his reaction as he saw me from down the hall. Tears were shed on both sides. Totally worth the five-hour drive up.

My brothers and I agreed to always make Christmas a priority when it came to getting together for the holidays, so when it was time to celebrate it together with Sterling up in Rochester for the first time I knew it would be important. I remember thinking to myself while I slept on their couch and while Paolo slept on the air mattress, that I felt like I was in a home and that I felt that familial presence surrounding me. The holidays are difficult enough as it is not being able to be together as a whole family back at home, but Angelo and Sterling’s home have come to feel like a home away from home.

It was friend love at first cue…I was working as a SM for a charity production, and would be using the theater’s tech team. I was a little nervous managing a crew I never met, especially since we would only have 1 day of tech before the show. The Tech Director told me that Sterling would be doing my spots. I didn’t get to meet Sterling before he went into the catwalk to the Spot Perch. Before the VERY FIRST spot I was going to call, Sterling comes over the headset asking me if I wanted the exact spot I was going to call. I hadn’t met Sterling yet, but we already shared a brain. Things have not changed since those many summers ago.

"I met Sterling, appropriately, while working on a student-run charity musical towards the end of my senior year of high school. From that moment on we became fast friends; from sleepovers and shopping and dates at Applebees, to more theatre shows throughout college, him putting on a dress and singing to me to cheer me up (which I still have proof of!); to moving across the country in 2015 and settling in Florida - you could say we've been through it all. I'm so excited to be a part of Sterling & Angelo's day! Congrats Sterling & Angelo - I love you!"

Angelo and I have been friends for 8 years! We met at Nazareth College, where he was a baby freshman and I was a sophomore and his department mentor (fun not creepy fact: I actually knew about Angelo before he came to Naz because I heard another Pacific Islander boy was admitted into our department). It didn’t take long for us to connect and bond, and I immediately took him under my wing. What else would you expect of a Guamanian and Hawaiian majoring in musical theatre in the middle of upstate New York?! It was an instantaneous feeling that I felt the need to care for and protect Angelo, and our friendship quickly became like brothers. And that feeling hasn’t changed. He’s like a brother to me.

Sterling, he’s funny, smart and he’s always there for me when I’m down. He makes my mom happy. This one time we had a pillow fight and I accidently hit his elbow with my teeth and then we both fell to the floor laughing. My mom came out of her room and when she saw us, she had this very funny and confused face that made us laugh even more. We do this thing called a Wii Weekend were we would play Mario kart. He always beats me at that, I’m still studying his technique. His cats are are very funny. Thank you guys so much for being my friends have a great wedding... I figured out how he beats my mom at Mario kart, he gives her alcohol then she runs into walls in the game.

They are known for their kindness, generosity, ability to dream and succeed. I first met Sterling when he was in middle school; he had ingenuity, tenacity and passion well beyond his years. I immediately vowed to teach him whatever he needed to pursue his career. We quickly developed a very strong mother/son relationship in addition to our roles in the theater world. Little by little, I realized that he would not need my in input or advice, and that he was, indeed, doing this on his own, surpassing all my expectations. I knew that they were in love because of the way Sterling’s face lit up every time he spoke of him. It’s kind of what you dream of for your kids. Sterling and Angelo are family. They are father figures in Liam’s life, that we are blessed to be making memories with. <3

I met Angelo in a College Writing class during our first semester at Nazareth. Our 8 year friendship has been filled with cheesy pop music, coffee dates, and retail therapy. One of my favorite memories is trying on shoes with him and strutting down store aisles like they were runways. What I love the most about Angelo is that even though were miles apart now, he's always there for me. I wish him and Sterling a lifetime of happiness!

I met Angelo before freshman orientation happened. We met online through our college’s form of Facebook exclusively for freshmen. Fast forward to now, our friendship has blossomed into being more like family. He is Kuya, brother in filipino, for a reason! Angelo is always the person who can make me laugh, be sassy with, and is there whenever you need him. I’m super excited to celebrate Angelo’s and Sterling’s big day! Especially the fact that Angelo’s mother, yes Tita Edna, and I will be leading in karaoke during the reception. Any Celine Dion or Shania Twain songs are off the tables, tita got first dibs.
