The dictionary definition of “friend zone” is a relationship where one person is attracted to another but the feeling is not mutual. This is where our story begins. I met Alyssa in the summer before our freshman year of high school and I was immediately drawn to her. She had a way about her that made me want to get to know her more. Luckily for me we were a part of the same tight knit friend group that spent a lot of time together. From there our friendship grew, and by happy coincidence Alyssa’s best friend Molly was my next door neighbor growing up. I was always checking outside to see if Alyssa’s car was in front of Molly’s house so I could go hangout with them. We had many fun nights of scary movies, Sonic runs and “exploring” Hutchinson that I will always cherish. As the years went by I still tried to think of ways to work up the courage to ask her on a date but could never do it. Finally, our Junior year, with some help from our best friends, I asked her to be my girlfriend. After years of being told we were better off just being friends this was an enormous accomplishment for me and life since has been a dream. Through High School, college and living in different cities we have always made time for each other and made each other feel wanted. As I think about this life that we have built together and the relationships we have cultivated, I realize how fortunate I am to have you by my side. I couldn't be more excited to start this new journey with you and continue to grow together.
