While looking to further her career in hospitality, Shawna decided to take on the task of opening a new Marriott hotel which is no easy feat in the hospitality industry. That hotel happened to be over an hour away in Kevin’s hometown of South Kingstown. While living in Norwich, Shawna made the hour ride every day with no complaints. Little did she know, that while traveling to work, she was likely passing Kevin every day as he drove in to his substitute teaching job in Westerly. As summer drew near, Kevin decided to apply for a front desk job at the newly opened Fairfield Inn and Suites, where Shawna had been working. As Shawna browsed the resumes of applicants, she saw the teacher’s application and immediately dismissed it, thinking “No way”. As fate would have it, on July 9th, 2019, Kevin was sitting in the back office and on hour 2 of the most confusing training module he’s ever seen when in walked the most beautiful soul he had ever laid his eyes on. She was holding a Dunkin medium iced mocha nestled inside a hot cup and talking about what she did on the day off she took to celebrate her birthday. Immediately, Kevin seized the opportunity to ask for help. Shawna, being the expert on FOSSE, stepped in to help him. The two were immediately drawn to one another. It was inevitable. While helping Kevin with the training, Shawna would ask more personal questions, even prompting a manager to ask if she was playing “20 Questions”. These questions blossomed into conversations. The two continued to get to know each other, frequently bonding over iced coffee and a shared love of the ocean. Sharing conversations and laughs turned into sharing memories. Sharing memories turned into sharing a life together. And the rest of the story, as they say, is history.
