Things To Do

Colonial Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg

101 Visitor Center Drive, Williamsburg, VA 23185

We highly recommend checking out Colonial Williamsburg! We typically get a pass from the Visitors Center (allows you access inside buildings and includes tours/ special shops), however you can walk around the area without a pass as well. If you decide to get a pass, our favorite spots are the Governor’s Palace, the Blacksmith Shop, and the Silversmith Shop. Our favorite places that do not require a pass are the Art Museum, the Raleigh Tavern Bakery, and the Merchants Square. Our favorite restaurant in the area is Precarious.

Historic Jamestowne

Historic Jamestowne

1368 Colonial National Historical Parkway, Jamestown, VA 23081

Jamestowne is the first English settlement in America, and it is the birthplace of the nation. We enjoyed walking around the site, looking at the settlement, seeing the original foundation in some of the buildings, and looking at all of the artifacts that have been recovered. We recommend allowing yourself 1-2 hours to see everything this park has to offer. Please note that the national park is free, however a pass is required to see the original Jamestowne archeological site. Passes can be purchased at the visitors center for the park.

Jamestown Settlement

2110 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA 23185

Just up the road from Historic Jamestowne is the Recreation Jamestown Settlement. Fun for all ages, this park includes an exact recreation of Americas oldest settlement, replicas of the ships used by the settlers, and a museum. Passes can be purchased at the Welcome Center of Jamestown Settlement Park, or at the Yorktown Revolutionary War Museum

Petersburg National Battlefield

Petersburg National Battlefield

Petersburg, VA 23803

American Revolution Museum at Yorktown

200 Water Street, Yorktown, VA 23690

“Easily one of the most inspiring and informative museums I have ever been to,” -Jacob. Located near the downtown riverfront of Yorktown, this museum shows the Revolutionary War from start to finish. Be sure to check out the re-creation Army camp outside the museum and the re-creation frontier homestead!

The Mariners' Museum and Park

The Mariners' Museum and Park

100 Museum Drive, Newport News, VA 23606

This is a great indoor activity! We had a blast here. Our favorite parts of the museum are the Civil War Iron Clad exhibit, the restoration project, and seeing thousands of miniature ships. There are several exhibits of ships throughout the centuries to see and learn about. Entry is $1 per person, and we spent about an hour touring the museum.
