How We Met

9/25/2017

We met in the fall of 2016, one year before we started dating. It was Devon's junior year at Slippery Rock University and Megan's sophmore year when Megan decided to join marching band and Devon was the drum major. We became friends as Devon liked to hang out with the drumline. In fall of 2017 during band camp, Megan approached Devon for advice about running for treasurer of the marching band, as he was the current treasurer. He highly recommended her for the position and got her phone number in case she had treasurer related questions. Devon then began texting Megan a lot, sending cute bitmojis and snapchats. Shortly after band camp, Devon swooped in while Megan and her friends ate at Boozel dining hall and asked her on a date! He wanted to take her to Jergel's Rhythm Grill to eat and listen to a band perform that night. Megan told him it was a little last minute but they should do it some other time. Over the next few weeks we began hanging out a lot and would find ourselves talking for hours! Our first unofficial date was when Devon asked Megan to grab some Taco Bell after we performed at the Butler Band Festival in his cool rental car. Two weeks after the initial date proposal, we drove from Slippery Rock to Cranberry Township to eat at Megan's favorite restaurant, Moe's, and listen to a jazz band at Jergel's (our first real date). That is when we officially started dating and the rest is history!

The Proposal

12/19/2020

The townhouse was decorated for Christmas and we had stuffed each other's stockings to open closer to Christmas. Devon had the idea to get dressed up for a date night at home. He picked out Megan's dress and jewelry and wore a matching outfit himself. Devon was downstairs (getting his guitar out and tuned unbeknownst to Megan) as she finished her hair and makeup. When Megan came down the stairs, Devon asked her to sit on the couch across from him and he played and sang 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran (their song). He then asked her to open the Christmas stocking. Inside was a Disney gift bag (Megan loves Disney) carrying a Petsmart gift card. Devon explained that this meant they were officially getting a dog together! (Megan had been asking Devon to get a dog practically since they started dating. However he is a cat person and was not thrilled about getting a dog. His commitment to getting a dog was a huge deal for Megan and therefore, that's when the tears started.) Devon then took her hands, looked into her eyes, and got down on one knee. He explained how 'perfect' it had been living in the same town, how 'perfect' their relationship was, and how 'perfect' their relationship would continue to be for the rest of their lives together. Devon asked Megan to marry him and she immediately said yes! Conveniently, Devon's friend, Kevin, just happened to be dropping something outside the townhouse right after the proposal. It was dinner from 10/09, a very nice local restaurant. Devon had ordered all of Megan's favorite foods! We also enjoyed homemade decorative fudge from Devon's grandmother to celebrate. After taking some time to ourselves, we began calling all of our friends and family to share the exciting news! We have been wedding planning every since and we got that puppy a few months later! In March, we welcomed home Murphy, a 3 month old mini ausiedoodle!
