Richard and I have known each other for about 20 years. I was friends with he and his first wife. We all attended Village Presbyterian Church together. Richard and I maintained our friendship off and on throughout the marriage and their divorce. We would discuss our common interest in the stars, teaching, and working at ADT. After pandemic and my father passing away, my family and I decided to try going back to church in person as we had been watching on line since the shutdown. As we entered the church building on the evening of October 9, 2022 Richard was standing at the top of the stairs. I said, "Good evening, Richard!" He turned around and exclaimed, "You have pink hair!" The rest of the mission event, he and I sat and talked at one of the tables in Friendship Hall. I gave him my phone number so we could meet up for dinner some evening. He texted the next morning and we met for lunch on Thursday. We attended a Mya Linn lecture at the Nelson that same night. We have been together since!
While on vacation in Frankfort, Michigan, we walked out on the breakwater many times. This being my first time in the area, I was mesmerized by everything! This particular morning Richard wanted to go to Frankfort earlier than usual. So, we got to the beach and walked out on the breakwater. I was admiring the view of a clear, calm morning on Lake Michigan when I happened to look in front of me… there was Richard on one knee, “Victoria Elizabeth Morris, I’ve brought you to the most beautiful place I know to ask you to marry me!” Of course I said yes! We walked back to town and celebrated with a cherry turnover and a cheese danish!
