Invisible String

Ever present but never seen

On a quiet evening in May 2018, Morgan decided to download Tinder. After weeks of casually swiping, she found herself heading back to FGCU for the weekend. Her location hadn’t updated yet, and as she browsed through profiles, one caught her eye. It was Tyler’s—though, if she were honest, it was the dog in his photo that really stood out. Intrigued, she swiped right. As she moved on to the next profile, her location finally updated to Naples, where she was staying for the weekend. For the next few weeks, Morgan and Tyler found themselves talking for hours—Morgan while working as a lifeguard at the JCC, and Tyler while teaching tennis at Interlachen. Their conversations flowed easily, and before long, they both felt a strong connection. Two weeks later, Morgan called Tyler while he was in the car with his brother, Chandler. When Chandler saw her name on the screen, he asked, “Does she have a sister named Sami?” Tyler was surprised when he realized the connection—his dad, Thad, had been Morgan’s mom and sister’s tennis coach years ago. And as it turned out, Sami and Chandler had even gone to middle school together. As they dug into their pasts, Tyler and Morgan realized they’d crossed paths several times over the years without ever meeting. They’d both been at Sami and Chandler’s 8th-grade graduation, and had likely passed each other countless times at the Heathrow pool, yet their paths never aligned. Despite their families knowing each other for years, their own story was only just beginning. They met for the first time in the quiet JCC parking lot, a surprise to Morgan—but Tyler wasn’t empty-handed. He brought her a Slurpee, and what seemed like a simple gesture felt like the start of something real. A few weeks later, they went on their first official date—ice cream at Andy’s, followed by hours wandering around Target, talking about everything and nothing. After weeks of getting to know each other, Tyler finally asked Morgan to be his girlfriend on July 18, 2018. Even though it was over text, it felt like the right moment. The next two and a half years were spent navigating a long-distance relationship while Morgan finished school in Fort Myers and Tyler worked in Orlando. Despite the miles between them, they made it work—through visits, phone calls, and shared plans for the future. In 2022, Morgan moved to Orlando after being accepted into a Master’s program, and she officially moved into Tyler’s apartment, along with his dog, Cody. In September 2024, they added another dog, Rex, to their growing family. Then, on November 1, 2024, Tyler took Morgan to their favourite beach on Amelia Island, a place that had always been special to them. There, with the waves gently rolling in, Tyler asked her to spend the rest of their lives together.
