Although Matt and I went to Great Oak High School together, we didn't really interact until June of 2013 on Pechanga's very own golf course - Journey. It was my day off from Wiens and I was asked to join a foursome even though I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I had complimented Matt on his calves while he golfed, yet he paid zero attention to me or my impressive golf skills. We had become 'friends' on social media after that day, but nothing more. Fast forward to February 2014 when we both attended a friend's birthday celebration at Incahoots San Diego. I had asked the group if anyone wanted to two-step. Matt in his usual witty tone said: "I'll teach you how to two-step." I resisted his charm and tried to play hard to get, but of course, I ran into him again in May while at Incahoots for another celebration. This time he asked me to dance. We danced, we talked, we laughed, and the rest is history!!
On our mornings off, Matt and I like to grab coffee, walk along Sunset Cliffs and finish with a drive through Point Loma. Sunday, November 4th, 2018 was supposed to be just another one of those mornings... or so I thought. Matt woke me up and said we had to leave by 8 am so that he could get back to work on his group project. At first, he was rushing me to get ready, but then all of the sudden we had plenty of time to waste. Why? Fog was in the forecast. Shelly (our photographer) was texting him to take me out a little later because of the heavy fog and pictures wouldn't turn out very well. Matt suggested we start with our drive through Point Loma and suggested I drive (as it would further distract me from noticing Shelly's car or that he was texting her). The fog was burning off and we headed down to the cliffs. I definitely didn't make it easy on Matt. I struggled to find a place to park - going in the complete opposite direction of where he wanted to take me, I needed a bathroom since we just drank a ton of water and coffee, and of course, I stopped to pet every single dog we walked by. We eventually got down to the perfect spot, Matt dropped to a knee, I cried and said YES!
THE best day ever! Although we needed to postpone our wedding celebration a full year due to the pandemic, we wanted to legally commit ourselves to one another in front of our immediate families and a few bridal party members on our original date. Just two weeks prior, we booked a secluded Airbnb in the hills of De Luz outside of our hometown Temecula, California. We exchanged I dos, shared some delicious funfetti cake, sipped on a couple big gulps, consumed a lot of Lucille's BBQ food and definitely had our fair share of booze! It may not have been our original plan, but it was incredibly perfect! Thank Heaven for 7-11!
Get your dancing shoes ready because we will be cutting several rugs as we make up for lost time and recover from a bizarre 2020 (and let's be honest, 2021). Looking forward to celebrating our marriage with you all...finally!
