We met at Florida Tech in 2003 when Morgan was a rower for the Florida Tech Women's Team and Luis was lucky enough to be the Athletic Trainer for the team. Morgan was in the training room quite a bit for her knees and Luis put in a lot of hours researching ways to keep her knees stabilized. 2005 comes around and the Women's team got a chance to compete at the NCAA Championship in Sacramento, CA. Luis got to travel with the team and took great care of Morgan (and others!) so she could help the 4 boat place 3rd at NCAA. This was the last event Luis worked for Florida Tech as he left to work at his alma mater, Lenoir Rhyne, from 2005-2020. Fast forward to Hurricane Dorian in September 2019. Dorian was supposed to make a direct hit to Melbourne, FL where Morgan and her family live. They decided to evacuate to Denver, NC where family lives. Morgan & Luis stayed in touch through the years (along with lots of other FIT athletes) and since Denver was only 40 minutes away from Hickory they decided to meet up. This ended up being a 4 generation trip with Morgan's 2 boys, parents and grandmother coming along for the ride. A connection was made while visiting the park and they decided to meet up again the next day. Luis & his mom (another evacuee from Florida) drove the next night to Kamp Krecicki, Morgan's Aunt & Uncle's house. We went down to look at Lake Norman at night and had our first kiss. Luis compares our first kiss to a Hallmark movie. We ended up having a long distance relationship for a year until Luis applied for the Head Athletic Training position back at Florida Tech. We firmly believe that Hurricane Dorian was a "God-wink" for us and the timing was perfect for our new life to start together.
