Jacob reached out to me on facebook, I was listed in his "suggested friends" list. Initially I turned him down when he asked to go grab dinner/drinks because I had never dated a random person I met online but a couple days later I thought "what could it hurt as long as we meet in a public place" (thanks to my sister). We joke about it to this day. We were both out of town at the time so we ended up chatting for a week or two before actually meeting which I think helped ease some of the initial awkwardness and small talk. We met at a little whiskey bar/restaurant in Alpharetta, Georgia and realized how much we had in common and just connected with one another. 5 years, 2 dogs, an apartment, a house and lots of memories later, here we are... just getting started.
We love traveling together and we had planned a trip out to Montana and Wyoming for a belated birthday celebration. While I was absolutely clueless, apparently Jacob had already asked my parents months in advance and made it through the airport with the ring. One of our close friends even asked me (very sneaky) the weekend before if I thought Jacob would ever propose on a trip and I said absolutely never! He would have an anxiety attack... After landing in Bozeman, Montana we stopped at Sage Lodge in Montana because Jacob said the view was incredible and we could just grab a drink and hang out for a minute before making our long drive to Cody, Wyoming. When we pulled up to the lodge, I was stunned by how pretty it was. We found a spot outside and ordered our usual bourbon on the rocks. We both typically sip our bourbon and I thought we were there to enjoy the view. But within a minute or two Jacob had completely thrown back his drink and ordered another. I asked if we were in a hurry and he said no, but that we should go ahead and have someone take our picture. He found a random woman and told me to walk out to a space so he could make sure the lighting and angle was good (this is normal for him, he is very into pictures with any trip we take). While I was walking out to the space, he told the woman to just keep taking pictures no matter what. He joined me for the picture and we took a couple before he stepped away from me and got down on one knee and said "what do you say we start this trip off right." There was a yes in there somewhere among lots of happy tears and hugs and kisses. Everyone was cheering us on and lots of random people came up to give us hugs and congratulate us. Several people bought us drinks and the Lodge brought us out champagne and flowers. After enjoying the moment and face-timing friends and family, we headed out on our way to enjoy the trip of a lifetime, traveling around Montana and Wyoming!
