Morgan and Cassie met through mutual friends at the infamous “fish night” in June, 2019. Jessica and Scott Smith hosted a party to welcome friends back from Mexico to celebrate their catch. Jessica jumped at the chance to introduce Cassie to the bachelors in the group, Morgan in particular. After some coaxing, Cassie canceled her other plans for the evening in favor of some good food and catching up with friends. Through some casual conversation at dinner, Morgan and Cassie discovered they both worked in Hawthorne just a few miles away from each other - Morgan at a Hawthorne fire station and Cassie at SpaceX - and had quite a few mutual interests. The spark was there, but the pair failed to exchange phone numbers that evening. A few weeks later, Morgan and Cassie were still on each other's minds. Cassie ultimately made the next move and texted, “Hey Morgan, it was nice to meet you, let me know if you want to grab a drink.” Morgan responded with a paragraph and a detailed calendar of options! Their first date was June 14, quickly followed by a Dodger game, Magic Castle, cruises in his ‘67 VW bus...shall we call it, Love? The opportunity arose for the couple to move in together in Torrance in early 2020. Morgan transferred to a new station with a great group of guys, and Cassie’s career took her to a new job at Romeo Power in Vernon. Thank goodness they were happy and settled as the pandemic tore across the world starting in March. We all paused our plans, worked from home, missed our people, and found new ways to occupy our time. They booked a trip to Mexico to celebrate Cassie’s birthday. After a few days of fun in the sun, Morgan got down on one knee with the engagement ring that had been burning a hole in his pocket for months. Morgan couldn’t wait any longer and excitedly asked Cassie to be his wife. And with his buzzing drone hovering to capture the moment, Cassie said, "YES!"
