How We Met

Morgan’s Story

I first met Benjamin in a meeting for the Biomedical club at Bluefield State College in the fall of 2015. I was new to the school, and I decided to join the club in order to make new friends. The first meeting was introductions, and he caught my interest. I really didn’t notice him until a few weeks later when the club had a taco party at Dr. Matoushek’s house. That night was when my heart started to flutter and never stopped. Of course, I was for certain he didn’t feel the same way about me so I left it at secretly admiring him until the spring semester. In March of 2016 we actually began to text and get to know one another. Over the next few months, I began to drive myself crazy over how I felt about him, but I knew he could never feel the same. We spent time together as friends where he got me into playing Xbox. We would play Gears of War together every time we would hangout. During the summer, he had an internship at NIH in Bethesda, Maryland, and we never got to hangout much then. I still felt as though he didn’t like me the way I liked him. School started again in the fall and we continued to talk. On September 19, 2016 he asked me to come over and play Xbox. On that day to my surprise, he, out of nowhere, asked me to be his girlfriend! Over the next 2 years we grew with each other in maturity and friendship, all while kindling the flames of a love story. We knew we were meant to be together. We fit like two puzzle pieces and this theme is often portrayed in our lives. Two puzzle pieces though seemingly from different puzzles, fit perfectly together as if they had always been made that way. On December 15, 2018 he asked me to be his forever beneath the Christmas lights in Tennessee! I can not wait to begin our lives together as husband and wife on November 7, 2020!

Colorless (a poem about my love for Morgan)

Written by Benjamin Duncan

With you, I now find the woven lights of the midday sun creeping at my window. I find the tender caress of curling grass between my toes. I now stop to notice the soft waltz of rain atop my head or the emergence of the solemn snow. And I find the shimmering midnight moon now sweeps to match my gaze. I find the palpable leaves of Autumn skies, now forage for my praise. I find the sheer cold of the saddest winters could not quell the fire reborn in me, for I have found my life in you, ow so colorfully.
