From first swipe to "I Do" Like all great modern love stories, ours began with a dating app — Upward. Chelsey had been using it for a few months, while Alex had only been on for two days when we matched. Chelsey sent the first message, and Alex replied with: “Hey, it’s Alex! :) Anyways, I never said it before but you’re beautiful, love your smile!” That one line made Chelsey fall for him faster than she expected. We started texting nearly every day, and the conversations flowed so easily, we knew we had to meet in person. Their first date was simple: boba. (Fun fact: Chelsey had no idea at the time that Alex hates boba… but he went anyway.) Before the afternoon ended, Alex asked if he could go to church with Chelsey the next day. She said yes, a little unsure if he’d actually follow through. But he did. That Christmas Eve, during worship service, Alex saw Chelsey fully present, hands raised, deeply engaged in God’s Word. In that moment, they were standing side by side in the one setting that mattered most, centered on the one value that mattered most: their faith. A few days later, Alex asked Chelsey to be his girlfriend — and she said yes. Four months later, he asked an even bigger question — and again, she said yes. So, in honor of how their journey began, with worship, faith, and a Christmas Eve service at Immanuel Baptist Church in Highland, they’ve chosen to start their next chapter in that very same place.
