Jenny will tell you that she and Morgan met at the first-year/second-year mixer in August of 2017. In reality, it was a few weeks earlier, at the 4th of July party where they first crossed paths. Morgan tried to break the ice with some light musculoskeletal anatomy humor, lost a game of flip-cup (a royal understatement - he got his ass handed to him), and bumped his head on an unfortunately placed table, nearly knocking it over. Let's just say, sparks didn't exactly fly. It wasn't until said mixer weeks later that the two really hit it off, and Morgan (thankfully) made a slightly better impression. At the party, Jenny and Morgan shared plenty of laughs and a few games of cornhole, and I think it's safe to say it was pretty obvious to Jenny and her friends that Morgan was interested. When it came time to leave for the night, Morgan couldn't imagine the good times ending there - when he ran back into the party for Jenny's number, she must have pitied him because, miraculously, she agreed to a night out on the town in the Fan neighborhood of Richmond, VA. Drunken roommates and bar scuffles notwithstanding, the two had a wonderful time. Still, no one could have known at the time that this goofy kid and this gorgeous girl were destined for love, least of all them, though now I think it comes as no surprise to anybody. The rest is history, but fast-forward two and a half years later when, after moving into a brand new apartment (back in the Fan in Richmond), Morgan proposed to Jenny not two blocks down the street from where they shared their first kiss. To read that story, see the passage below. It's a good one.
Honestly, Morgan had wanted to propose to Jenny for most of 2019, but he was still working out the details right up until the day itself. With COVID-19 hitting hard near the end of March, pieces of what would become Jenny's engagement ring bounced around between Roanoke, New Orleans, and New York City for most of April. Morgan finally had the ring in hand when they moved into their new apartment in Richmond, VA on May 1st. With Jenny's graduation and board exam coming up in the next few weeks, Morgan was still unsure as to when would be the right time... until that night when Jenny said, rather off-handedly and fueled with the confidence of a bottle of champagne, "You know, at this point, I might just have to propose to you." That kind of directness and no-nonsense attitude was what Morgan fell in love with in the first place, and knowing that the ring was only a few steps away, he thought to himself, "Ok, it's on." For that week, much to Jenny's frustration, Morgan stayed up late each night preparing. Harkening back to their first few months of dating, during which time Morgan would leave notes and drawings for Jenny at school (yes, yes, it's all very cute), he prepared a treasure hunt around their new home, utilizing pieces of their relationship new and old to create a trail for Jenny to follow which led right up to the proposal itself. The day after her virtual PT school graduation, Jenny knew something was up when, at 6 o'clock in the morning, Morgan ecstatically recounted all the details of the very average Netflix show he had watched the night before (ok, it was Outer Banks, and it was awesome). Clearly disinterested, Jenny reached for her phone, only to discover a note waiting for her. As Morgan had planned, she followed the trail of breadcrumbs, culminating in a proposal at her favorite spot (our mailbox) in her favorite outfit (a fluffy robe). After her jaw just about hit the floor, she said yes. Then they drank more champagne.
