We met at a local bar near the Sacramento State campus where we are both are proud alumni, Stingers up! Kelly was with a group of girls from college and one of Pat's friend's decided to come up to us and without telling Pat his plan, introduced Pat as his "model" friend. Pat, who was wearing a brightly colored ITALIA sweatshirt from his recent family trip to Italy, laughed at his friend's joke and quickly tried to clear up the misinformation but to no avail. It was a loud bar and Kelly had heard model, saw the Italy sweatshirt and stopped listening to the rest of his explanation. The rest is history...

Pat spent the early part of the day visiting with Kelly's parents and Grandma Fran to show them the ring he had bought. After he got permission to propose from Steve, Kelly's Father, he went to visit his Mom, who was tragically sick at the time. He wanted to show her the ring and to fill her in on his plans to propose. Kelly, confused on why he had been gone all day and wanting to spend New Years day with him, patiently waited for him to get home. After Pat arrived home, he told Kelly he wanted to get some fresh air and go for a walk. He then drove her out to the beautiful Sutro Baths in San Francisco. During the walk Pat found a beautiful spot on the cliffs, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and dropped to one knee. The city is a very special place for Kelly and Pat, and there is no place else they would rather share this beautiful memory. After the incredible moment, they walked back to their car. Upon starting the car, the song that was instantly on the radio was the 1975 hit, 'Sing a Song' by Earth Wind and Fire - Pat's Mother Melissa's favorite band. You can call it coincidence, but Pat and Kelly feel it was God and Melissa telling them everything was going to be ok... They then went to a San Francisco classic, Balboa Cafe, with friends, Pat's Brother Matt, and his Father Patrick Sr. to celebrate with drinks!
