We met at the end of the day when I was in my office finishing up on my case notes, when the Program Supervisor Lanice knocked on my door to introduce me to a new employee who was starting to work at the job. Little to my knowledge did I know that this was her second time working for the agency. After the door knocked, I kept up with my open-door policy and ask them to enter. At first when they entered in the office I still had my head stuck in the laptop, but once I stood up and saw who the new person was. My colleague introduce me to the lovely Ms. Mora Scotland. After seeing her initially I had to do a double take and was like DAYUM SHE'S FINE (I said in my mind)!!! I had to remember that I was still on the job, so I had to make it look like I was cool with the introduction and I was. She had no clue, but the moment after talking to her for a few minutes I was thinking that she's just too fine and smart to be single and unattached. Let's fast forward to a month later. We were working at the same office. Mora would drive in early sit in her car and would see me walking in from the bus stop. I wasn't issued my job phone immediately so I was still using my personal one. I thought that I get clever, or at least I thought I was trying to give my phone number to her so that she could call me if a client or case manager was trying to reach me. Mora's not a slow leak, and she knew my angle so she gave it to a program assistant at the intake desk and had them tape it to the computer screen. A few days later, Mora told me that she's been offered a position at another location. I gave her a high five to congratulate her, and asked her out for the first time to celebrate. My mind was doing backflips like I was a member of the Flying Wallendas. Like Aunt Jemima, she turned me down flat like a pancake telling me that she's not being social because of Covid. I thought that was cool, because we work in an environment that has an extremely high and vulnerable population that can contract Covid. By the end of the week she work her last day, and I gave her my phone number without using work as an excuse to talk to her. She graciously took it, and I doubted that she would call. By the middle of the evening much to my surprise she called and we talked for about 4 - 5 hours. I asked her out from October 2021 to February 2022 and we've been constantly talking with each other regularly, and every time I've asked her out she's went Aunt Jemima on me giving me a large stack reasons for me to eat. By February, Mora told me that she was going to start doing her traveling and was leaving to go on a cruise on February 20, 2022. I knew from our conversations that she worked in the travel industry and was looking to go to her birthplace in St. Croix for her birthday. Well I thought that she was going to go and not return to the job. I figured that I'd ask her out one more time, and I told her that I wanted to take her out because I'm not sure if she would come back. I asked her if she would give me the honor to go out with her for cocktails and dinner. When she said yes, and at that time I felt like Redd Foxx calling for Elizabeth. After hanging up that call and from building a friendship, I knew then that I didn't want this woman to get away. It was only days after that first date that we mutually knew that we had something that was unique, genuine, and special. From the moment that I laid my eyes on her, to the date that I proposed, I have never experienced so much happiness like this since I was a child waiting for Christmas day. Everyday that I've been with Mora since it has been my Christmas, New Year's, Juneteenth, 4th of July and Birthday all wrapped up in one. Since then, there's not a day that goes by that I don't thank God for sending this beautiful Island Queen in my life to join this Urban King.
