This is one of Jacob and Skylar's favorite places to walk - the view is so beautiful, and the walk is challenging but worth it. Jacob enjoys running the path; Skylar is determined to build up the lung capacity to join him... eventually. :) This is the place of a few monumental moments. Jacob and Skylar took their first picture together here - selfie-style, pretty awkward. :) This is also where Jacob wanted to tell Skylar "I love you" for the first time... but she was nervous and evaded all things sentimental, instead showing him how to find the baby crabs that live under the rocks along the water. She did love him though, very much... so she built up the guts to tell him so as they drove home. :)
This is the place to go! Start at the gardens and work your way to the water and then into the woods, finishing out with the Five Mile Drive around the peninsula. The view across the sound reminds Jacob of the West Point campus. :) The walk through the rainforest is amazing - thick trees and ferns filter the sunlight as we stand in awe of God's creative strength. This is also a sweet place to Jacob and Skylar. They walked the trails here a lot at the beginning of their relationship; sitting on one of the park benches, Jacob asked to "officially" start dating. 'Twas the beginning! This location is also where they had so much fun taking engagement pictures with the beautiful Mollie Masters.
In Washington, the rainy weather and grey cloud cover are quite persistent... to say the least. However, when the clouds finally dissipate in June, Washingtonians rejoice as much that "the mountain is out," as they do that the sun is out. :) Mt. Rainier is prominently visible on the horizon in this area, and it is glorious even from a distance. It is about a two hour trek to the mountain from Tacoma, and so worth it! Jacob and Skylar went to hike in the summer of 2018 with Skylar's dear friend, Beth Hoffman. There are few places as picturesque as the mountain, and the closer you can get to it, the better!
This is the place where Jacob proposed! Leavenworth is a little German town nestled in the mountains in the middle of the state. It is a good three hour drive, but the town is known for its delicious food, hospitality, and most of all, its beautiful scenery. In the summer, a professional theater company performs in an outdoor amphitheater nestled in Leavenworth's hills; Skylar grew up going to see The Sound of Music with her grandparents. In the winter, the business-owners all decorate their shops for Christmas; the lights are absolutely beautiful in combination with the snow. On December 22nd, along the river, with the snow falling and the lights twinkling, Jacob asked Skylar to marry him! :)
