My friend Ben’s dog had just had puppies, and I was getting to take one home. But, I had to wait for them to get a little bit older first, and was so excited that I would go over to his house almost every day to see them. One day I went over before Ben got back and I was waiting for him to come home, when his roommate Brian came home first. He asked if I was there to see the puppies and offered that I could come over and see them anytime that he was home. We exchanged numbers, you know, so that I could see puppies at my leisure. Then he opened the door for me, which in turn opened the door for us. We would hang out and talk everytime I came over, and began hanging out other places on campus. Fast forward several years, and we have our own puppy and are getting married.
Brian and I had planned a special weekend during my college fall break to go to The Biltmore Estates. This is somewhere I had been dreaming of visiting ever since I was little. Brian bought us tickets to do the tour of the house and because this trip was also going to be a celebration of our anniversary, Brian suggested we dress nice for the occasion. He also said he didn't know what the attire was supposed to be for the event (lies). So after he bought a new suit for him and a beautiful dress, sweater, AND shoes for me... a normal person would be suspicious. The day of our the trip we had lunch, stopped at The Omni Grove Park Inn and then made our way over to the Biltmore. As we got out of the car I mentioned to Brian that we were a little over dressed and his response was "Well, too late." We took pictures in front of the house before doing the tour and then made our way down to the front. The house was beautiful. I had read about it in a book I borrowed from my grandparents many years ago. So I had been dreaming about going to this estate since then. The tour took a little over an hour and then we headed back outside to walk through the gardens. By this point I was getting tired and wanted to just hit the gift shop and go down to the winery. But, Brian wanted to go back up to the front for another picture. Being oblivious, I said “We already have a good picture why can’t we just go?” But Brian persisted. We walked back to the top and Brian told me to look at the house and I said, with a little attitude, “I have already looked at the house... it is a pretty house... I even saw the inside.” And thats when Brian took my hand and said “You know I love you right?” Well did I feel like a dummy. That is when it finally hit me. Brian got down on his knee and popped out the most incredible ring. Honestly, I have no idea what he said (and neither does he) until “Will you marry me?” And of course I said YES!
