FAQs

Our wedding celebration has been moved to Memorial Day Weekend 2021 (Saturday, May 29 - Monday, May 31) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have any additional questions, please reach out to Sarah or James.
Question

When is this happening?

Answer

Memorial Day Weekend of 2021. Arrive on or after Saturday, May 29th and depart by Monday, May 31st. Please feel free to join us for the whole weekend or just part - whatever works best for you and your schedule! If you are planning to arrive earlier than May 29th, please reach out to us! (Though you may be recruited for decorating and set-up!)

Question

Wait, so you're not having a wedding?

Answer

We are having a very small ceremony in Denver with our closest family the weekend before our big, fun, friend celebration. We live so far from all of you and want to spend as much time with you as we can, so rather than a traditional ceremony and reception, we are having a reception weekend filled with time that we can actually spend with you.

Question

So what's this non-traditional reception weekend?

Answer

We are renting 3 amazingly huge houses at a vacation resort in Orlando, FL. They will combined sleep 60+ people, so everyone who wants to can stay. The weekend will be full of fun and plenty of time to see everyone who comes out.

Question

You mentioned fun... what kind of fun?

Answer

All the houses have their own private pool and hot tub. The house also has it's own game room and tons of activities. We will have yard games, drinking games, card games, board games... did you know we like games? There will also be evening bingo and trivia! In addition, the resort has a center which has a big pool, water slides, a lazy river, fitness center, arcade, and more!

Question

What are we going to eat?

Answer

We will stock the houses with food, drinks, and snacks as well as specialties and catering for each of the main meals of the weekend. Sarah is more excited for the Costco trip than the actual weekend. If you love cooking, reach out to us and we'll make sure we stock the ingredients! (Not required by any means but we know we have a few friends who would love nothing more but spending their time in the kitchen).

Question

Can I stay somewhere else if I want?

Answer

Please do! Our priority is that everyone feels comfortable during our reception weekend. If you prefer, please stay at a hotel or airbnb near our houses. Just 2 asks: 1. Please let us know in your RSVP that you plan to stay somewhere else. 2. Please do not drink and drive. Lyft and taxis are prevalent in this area. (You are responsible for your own transportation)

Question

Can I bring my child?

Answer

We would love for you to bring your child! Please note that there will be drinking and potentially raucous behavior, as well as loud music, but we trust you all to make choices that are best for your family and what you want your children to be exposed to. However, due to the nature of the event, we will not allow children to sleep in the vacation homes that we are renting. Please join us for whatever length of time is best for your family!

Question

We're in Orlando... do you mind if I go to Disney World?

Answer

Please do! We know there are so many awesome things to do there! Please take time to go to Harry Potter World or Disney World. We won't come with you, as we plan to stay at the house for anyone who wants to try to beat James at Beer Pong, but please have all of the fun for us! (Sarah is jealous.)

Question

Will there be any quiet space?

Answer

If you know James, you probably know the answer to this. We plan to keep all bedrooms non-party zones so people can have a place of sanctuary. In addition, the main house will be where the majority of the party is, leaving the other two houses for quiet time, personal time, etc.

Question

What clothes do I need?

Answer

Bring your bathing suit! Otherwise, what you wear is up to you! The house will be casual. We aren't planning on doing anything that would require formal clothing.

Question

What room will I be staying in? Will I be sharing?

Answer

We will be providing accommodations to all guests who wish to stay with us at our 3 rental homes. In your RSVP, please let us know if you plan to stay with us or get your own hotel or AirBnB. We will try our best to place each guest or couple in their own private room, but we may need to pair guests in the same room (with separate beds). If you know another guest and you wouldn't mind sharing a space with them, please let us know and we'll do our best to honor your preference. We'll tell you which house and room you're staying in before you arrive.

Question

How do I tell you about any special accommodations I need?

Answer

Please let us know in your RSVP if you have any food allergies, dietary preferences, housing/mobility/accessibility requirements you may have. If there's any other way we can accommodate you, please let us know on the RSVP.

Question

This doesn't sound like my cup of tea. Will you be mad if I don't come?

Answer

We will take no offense if this sounds uncomfortable in any way. Our goal is for everyone to have as much fun as possible, so if the description sounds boring or awful, we completely understand. This won't be your last time to have fun with us, and we can even Skype with you while we're there for a quick chat.

Question

I don't drink, and it sounds like there's a lot of drinking here. Will I be welcome?

Answer

Absolutely. None of our friends will pressure you to drink, and if someone does please let us know and we'll have the uncomfortable chat with them.

Question

Can I suggest an idea I have for an activity?

Answer

Absolutely! We would love to hear your brilliant and fun ideas, and we'll see how we can fit them into our schedule.

Question

What if I don't feel comfortable in a swimsuit?

Answer

We trust our friend group to be non-judgmental, but we understand that this can still be a concern. James and Sarah will be swimming but there is no pressure for anybody to swim or wear a swimsuit.

Question

Why a destination wedding?

Answer

California, Rhode Island, Memphis, and Denver are not near each other. Neither are the 40 other places our friends live. Any location was going to be a destination wedding! We like sunshine and pools and giant houses and Orlando has all of those things and is one of the most convenient places to travel to for the most amount of people.

Question

What gifts do you want? I can't find a registry.

Answer

We don't need or want any gifts, but we appreciate the thought! If you would like to donate to a fund to help people who need financial help getting to our event, please reach out.

Question

Let's rage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer

YES! But also, we'll be dealing with 60 people so we would appreciate if you pick up after yourself throughout the weekend. (Ex. trash, dishes, etc.) Anything you don't help with will fall on us to pick up and keep clean. If you make a mess and don't help out, know that James and Sarah will not invite you to their second or third weddings.
