Andrew and I first met in 3rd grade where he wrote jokes on sticky notes to try and make me laugh. We always had different classes, so it was hard to talk to each other on a regular basis. After fourth grade, I had to go to a different school and never thought we would see each other again. I was wrong. Sixth grade we were both at Locust Grove Middle School and we saw each other again! We started getting closer and closer from that moment on. Junior year in high school I found out that Andrew has had a crush on me since we first met. Looking back now, I would have never known that the little boy writing jokes on a sticky note would one day be my husband.
May 18, 2018 is a day I will never forget. The morning leading up to that night I was home with my family in Blairsville, GA. Early that morning mom, Dyl, and I get up super early and went to our favorite coffee shop in town. Mom was rushing me out of the door because I was going back to McDonough, GA early. As I was getting ready to go she was making frosting for a cake, and I could never figure out why she was making a cake at 9am. Once I got back to McDonough, Andrew and I were getting ready for a friend’s dinner we were going to. I had nothing to wear, so I kept trying to wear shorts and a t-shirt, but everyone kept saying “No, you need to dress up.” Andrew gave me my birthday present early and it was a pretty pink floral romper. Once we get to the restaurant, we had to have been there for at least two hours and when dinner was over we decided to go walk around Target because it was still early in the night. After stalling me even more we took the long way home to go to a bonfire at Andrew’s house. His brother was graduating a week later so they told me all his family was going to be there to celebrate early. Once we got to his house Kynadi said she needed to go inside and to wait with her. Again, more stalling. I remember walking out of the house and hearing the song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran playing which I thought was a bit odd to play at a family bonfire. I started to walk down the hill and turn the corner and notice everyone looking at me. My eyes kept going and I saw a HUGE sign that said, “Will You Marry Me?” with Andrew standing next to it. My automatic reaction was to drop to the ground and cry because I did not suspect anything! I finally got up and started walking to Andrew, I see my mom, dad, and Dyl standing amongst everyone. I was so shocked that they were there because they were supposed to be two and a half hours away. I loved that everyone was able to be present on such a special, memorable day. This is a night I will cherish forever.
