We met at a technology conference neither of us were supposed to be at. Monika was running media relations on site and Gary was working the booth for his VR company. We chatted a bit over the next few days and at the end of the conference Gary made sure not to get Monika's contact information. After a change of heart and some light online stalking, Gary found her email address on a press release and reached out to make plans for when she was going to be in NYC a few weeks later. We guess the date went well.
Being the deeply romantic individuals that we are, it wasn't so much a proposal rather a proposition. We already had a domestic partnership so that Monika could get on Gary's insurance and he thought it wasn't a huge leap to marriage and she had no objections. Then we ordered another round of beers at Zum Schneider.
