We wanted to be able to spend as much time with our loved ones as possible. We figured by having a few days away, we would be able to maximize our time together. We wanted our guests to have a nice, relaxing weekend away and Sojourn will provide just that. Activities will include: laying by the pool, playing in the lake, playing yard games, having campfires, eating, drinking, and just enjoying each other's company!
After Scott proposed, we started hunting for the perfect place to get married. Having recently moved from Cleveland to Columbus, turning the weekend into a mini-destination celebration where everyone could travel, slow down, and stay together felt natural to us. Northern Michigan has deep roots for us. Monica’s grandparents retired on Munro Lake in Levering (just a short drive south of Mackinaw City), which has always been her ultimate happy place filled with favorite childhood memories. Monica's grandparents, Richard and Justina Blair celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the property back when it was called El Rancho Steven's. Then in 2023 a Blair family reunion was held at this resort. In addition Monica’s grandfather, Frank Matusik was born and raised right here in Gaylord. While browsing venues online, Scott came across Sojourn and sent the link over—completely unaware of the family connection. The moment Monica saw it, we knew it was meant to be. We couldn't imagine a more meaningful place to celebrate starting our next chapter with all of you!
We will have access to Sojourn Lakeside Resort and all of its amenities from Thursday, June 17 at 5:00 p.m. through Sunday, June 20 at 9:30 a.m. Monica, Scott, our families, and the wedding party will arrive on Thursday and plan to spend Thursday evening keeping things very casual—playing yard games and hanging out around the fire pit after dark. If you’re already in town, you are more than welcome to come by the resort and join us! (Please remember to BYOB, as drinks will not be provided) We would love for you to take full advantage of Michigan’s beauty and make a vacation out of our wedding weekend—be sure to check out our ‘Things to Do’ tab for a few of our favorite spots around Gaylord and beyond!
Due to limited seating capacity, we ask that only those who were included on your invitation be present on our day! We unfortunately cannot accommodate additional guests and we hope you understand. If you are traveling with your kids and want to bring them along for our casual Friday Day at the Lake (even if they aren't attending the ceremony or reception), they are more than welcome—just please let Monica or Scott know ahead of time so we can plan accordingly!
Northern Michigan June days are warm and sunny (70s–80s°F), but lake breezes and nights can cool down quickly into the 50s. Bring a light jacket or cozy sweater for bonfires and late evenings by the water. Don’t forget a swimsuit, beach towel, sunglasses, sunscreen, bug spray, and water shoes if you plan to explore the falls or lakes!
