Beautiful hiking and waterfalls near the charming town of Silver Falls. Check out the famous South Falls and see what a 177-foot curtain of water looks like from behind. It’s part of the Trail of Ten Falls, a spectacular, nationally recognized hiking trail that weaves through a dense forested landscape. The trail passes a series of breathtaking waterfalls along a rocky canyon, and descends to a winding creek at the forest floor.
The refuge is open every day from dawn to dusk and is always free. Visiting the 5,325 aces of William L. Finley NWR is a great way to see what the Willamette Valley once looked like, when the Kalapuya were stewards of the land. With over 12 miles of trails, you can see the rare and historic Valley habitat types: Oak savanna, wetland prairie, mixed forest, riparian , upland prairie and both permanent and seasonal wetlands.
If you have the time, head to the Oregon coast to relax and recharge. Newport is about an hour's drive to the west along scenic highways. Forty minute's north of Newport is Lincoln City, another charming coastal town with large beaches and surfing. If you're really up for a scenic adventure the iconic sea stacks at Cannon Beach are about two hours further north of Lincoln City.
