Kris: Coincidence would be an understatement. Neither Monica nor I had regularly visited Boston, and while Monica went to celebrate a friend’s birthday, my visit was completely random. On a whim, I decided to head up to Boston with one of my best friends, Greg, to visit high-school buddies I hadn’t seen for close to seven years. That night we all decided we were going out. I don’t clearly remember why we decided to go to Howl at the Moon, a dueling piano bar, but of all the bars in Boston... and there are a lot... that was where we ended up. My buddies and I were at the bar for a bit, and I hadn’t talked to or seen anyone that held my attention until I saw Monica laughing with her friends across the room. If you’ve seen Monica smile, you’d understand why you can’t ignore it. I’ll be honest when I went over to introduce myself Monica wanted nothing to do with me. I knew I wasn’t getting anywhere, so I went to plan b which consisted of tequila shots for Mary (Monica’s Sister) and Kristin (their friend who’s birthday they were celebrating) followed by us locking down the piano and having the whole bar sing Happy Birthday to Kristin. That plus Monica being jealous of some other girls that were talking to me won her over 😉 That night we exchanged numbers, but the coincidences kept on coming. Monica: When he asked me on a date a few days later, I was hesitant. If you know me, you know I love to do research, so I did my due diligence and found out we had a number of people in common. I asked one of our close family friends, Katy, about Kris, and she had nothing but good things to say, which was enough for me to say yes to our first date. Katy, by the way, was also friends with Kris through Greg, so yeah, coincidence would be an understatement. I’ve clearly been saying yes ever since 😘
Our relationship has been one adventure after another. From our cross country travels, to camping and hiking all over the coast of California, and traveling abroad. It was only appropriate that Kris picked the time to ask me to marry him on another adventure. I was paddle boarding and he was kayaking in Marathon Florida. We were several hours deep into the mangroves when I started to notice Kris's kayak rocking quite a lot. I turned around and to my surprise I see him getting on one knee and pulling out a ring box from his back pack. He held open the box, balancing on the kayak over water, and asked me to marry him. My response was a resounding "Yes" followed immediately after by "don't drop the ring.” I mean we were out on the water in the middle of mangroves with fish swimming underneath us. It was a total surprise in one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Another adventure for the books!
