Monica and Gabriel first met in the choir loft of Our Lady of the Gulf. Monica had noticed Gabriel sitting downstairs and she thought the back of his head was cute (lol). As it turned out, the front of his head was cute too, and she was crushing on him almost instantly. They began to spend a lot of time in each other's company due to the choir, and Monica's mom (who probably guessed something was up) invited Gabriel to spend Christmas with their family. They spent more and more time together, and eventually worked up the courage to take the leap and confess their love. If it sounds like a fairytale, well... that's because it is.
Gabriel was finally ready to propose on March 19th 2021. As it was St. Joseph's feast day, he and the Ladner family first attended the St. Joseph's Altar at OLG. After that, they all went to visit Monica's Memaw and Papa, and from there, Gabriel took Monica to Jones' Park in Gulfport for a totally-not-suspicious walk along the pier. Monica was pretty sure she knew what was going on, and Gabriel wasn't being very subtle either. After about fifteen minutes of grumbling that there were too many people around, he finally took her farther out on the pier, had her face the sunset, and got down on one knee to ask The Question. To her embarrassment, the first thing out of her mouth after he asked "will you marry me" was not "yes", but instead "I KNEW IT!!"
